Frequently asked questions around content to context.

Content Categories Not Visible

  • Question: Why am I not seeing content categories even though Rayn JS is loaded?

  • Answer: Rayn JS extracts content from websites for contextualization. If the content hasn't been processed before, it may take up to 20 minutes for new content to be processed and cached.

Unexpected Content Categories

  • Question: Why am I seeing odd content categories?

  • Answer: Rayn uses generative AI to broaden the relevance of keywords, which may lead to detecting categories not directly linked to the content. These categories, while seemingly unrelated, often still fall within a relevant scope.

Consent Requirement for Contextualization

  • Question: Why do you need consent for providing context?

  • Answer: Content categories are stored in the browser's local storage. Accessing and modifying local storage requires user consent. In the EU, consent for vendor 1220 must be in place.

Meaning of Content Category IDs

  • Question: What do the content category IDs mean?

  • Answer: The content categories correspond to the IAB Content Taxonomy versions 2.2 or 3.0, ensuring alignment with standard categorization frameworks.

Frequent Content Updates

  • Question: How do you ensure content categories are up to date with frequently updated page content?

  • Answer: Rayn performs a checksum each time a page is loaded. If changes are detected, the content is reprocessed to maintain up-to-date categorization.

Variability in Response Time

  • Question: Why does the response time for new content categories vary?

  • Answer: The processing speed for new content depends on the current server load. Content is queued and processed as soon as resources become available.

Differences Between IAB Taxonomies

  • Question: What is the difference between IAB Content Taxonomy 3.0 and 2.2?

  • Answer:
2.2 - This is still the most widely supported content taxonomy by SSP's and DSP's. If you wish to use Google Publisher Provided signals you will need to use V.2.2
3.0 - This latest version includes updates to better support a variety of areas – News, Video/CTV content, Podcasts, Radio, Games and App stores. The changes include updates to “Aboutness categories” as well as to the additional “vectors”. Rayn uses the 3.0 version as it's default content taxonomy.

Controlling Taxonomy Usage

  • Question: How can I control which taxonomy is used?

  • Answer: IAB Content Taxonomy 3.0 is the default. You can enable or disable taxonomies in the Connections configuration under 'Connections > Integrations'.

Sending Lower Category Tiers

  • Question: Why should I care about sending lower category tiers than what was detected?

  • Answer: Rayn can push parent categories along with detected categories. For example, detecting "13 Minivan" also pushes its parent categories "1 Automotive" and "2 Auto Body Styles". This ensures the page isn’t excluded by buyers targeting broader categories.
